About this item
It’s hard not to be impressed by the LG UltraGear 38GN950. If you’re looking for the ultimate gaming monitor, this is certainly the one to beat, with a 144Hz refresh rate that can be easily overclocked to 160Hz, 1ms response time, spectacular image quality, and many other gaming features like G-Sync, an ultra-wide aspect ratio and DisplayHDR 600. If you’re serious about gaming, then this is the gaming monitor to get – if you can afford it, that is.

Pros
I've been waiting for this monitor since the launch of LG in the spring. Amazon finally delivered it to me this weekend. The monitor is in a class of its 24:10 at 38" 3840x1600 @160Hz format and responsive IPS on the market. Compared to its predecessor 38GL950, this one here offers HDR600 instead of HDR400 and does not have an annoying fan through the G-Sync module.
As far as I have tried it so far, I can only say that I am absolutely happy and happy with it!
Unpacked, the monitor is very fast, and the stand can be mounted even without tools. First of all, turn on the monitor and first examined: no backlight bleeding, no IPS Glow, and no pixel errors or the like are visible to me. So flawless panel! For this, it is very bright, has a super even illumination, and beautiful colors. By the way, the monitor is factory-tested by LG for gammer (value 2.2), color temperature (6500K) and DeltaE < 5. AMD Freesync works right off the bat on my 5700 XT.
Trade magazines will certainly take a closer look at the display in the coming days. Anyway, I'm thrilled so far.
Edit: Now that I've been using the monitor for a few weeks now I've noticed a few things. On the one hand, the monitor has a slight vignette effect, i.e. at the top and bottom of the display about 3- 5mm deep, a slight darkening is visible with a completely white image. Unfortunately, this is probably not an isolated case for me, because in various forums other owners of this screen also report on this. In any case, I find it almost not disturbing in everyday life or I do not notice everyday life at all. So for me it's no reason to return the screen.
For the HDR 600: I'm currently playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, which has a rational HDR implementation. And here I must say that the game with HDR looks much better than without it. It's fun to fly in space battles, for example, and then be blinded against a sun when flying. In general, the textures look more natural, and in dark corners you can see more. As a comparison, I have a Samsung Galaxy S10, which now also offers HDR thanks to the AMOLED display. Here it is clearly evident that the LG IPS typically can not compete with the black level. So, in summary, the HDR is fun, but it's not outstanding. I wouldn't want to miss the feature anymore, though it wasn't that important to me when I bought it. [first HDR image = LG, second HDR image = Galaxy S10]
Go to AMD Freesync: This also works great with Linux operating systems, in my case Arch Linux. The only catch is that the compositors of the desktop environment must be disabled beforehand. And another thing about the FPS numbers at 3840x1600 resolution: With SWBF 2, I can reach about 80-100 FPS, Doom (2016) 100-140 FPS, and Cities Skylines 60 - 70 FPS, all on Ultra settings with the 5700 XT.
Cons
Dead pixel.
Uniformity of the screen in the socks.
Protective film (?) on the edge of the poorly cut screen that bubbles.
At this price, it's shameful!
