Costumers Product Reviews

Pros

Unconnected with the machine and not influencing the review, Parcelforce was pretty dreadful in getting this to me. They sent it to the wrong distribution centre, introducing a two-day delay in delivery. Also, the carton showed signs of rough treatment when it arrived. Luckily, the air packs and bubble wrap inside protected the contents.

The machine itself is basically a laptop motherboard on the back of a monitor. Having said that, it's very neat looking, very quiet in operation, and is fast enough for my needs. I bought it to replace a 6-year-old all in one that wasn't able to cope with today's demands on a PC.

On unpacking, you'll find that a small amount of self-assembly is required. Just 8 screws - and a small screwdriver is helpfully included in the packaging. There are no instructions but it's obvious which size screws go where.

Setting up the computer is simply a matter of filling in your Widows preferences and letting it download whichever updates are required - there will definitely be a few so allow a few minutes for that to happen before you start using the computer. You can connect over Wi-Fi or hard-wired ethernet (which is usually faster).

The screen is nicely sharp and the sound is acceptable from the speakers on the rear of the monitor although I'll probably plug in some external ones to improve the audio quality.

The keyboard and mouse kit that are included are ok. The keyboard is fine but the mouse feels cheap and flimsy so I've bought a replacement that has more features and feels a little more substantial.

For connectivity, the two USB sockets on the edge of the screen are handy but the 4 USB 3 sockets tucked away in the base of the monitor really need you to rotate the screen to see them properly so you might not want to change them very often.

As for the screen rotation, it is probably a handy feature but the image doesn't auto-rotate in the way you might expect so you have to manually change the settings when you turn it so I don't think I'll be using it much.8Gb of RAM and 256 GB SSD are sufficient for most users, you can easily browse the web, write emails and work on documents at the same time without slowing the machine down but I also like to edit audio, pictures and video so I've added an extra 8GB of RAM to improve the multitasking capabilities.

You can either choose to buy the next machine up in the range if you feel you need more resources or just buy an 8GB strip of RAM (around £35 at the time of writing) and slot it in yourself if you're reasonably competent with such tasks. In all, I'm very happy with this machine, it's reasonably priced, neat, fast and very quiet in operation.

Cons

Nice tidy all in one PC that has a major flaw for those who might wish to use it with Zoom or Microsoft Teams etc. First off easy to set up, reasonably fast and a solid build. Portus has obviously put a lot of thought into this PC. They even conceal the webcam in a nice pop up above the monitor. Lovely jumbly. Then they must have got to Friday afternoon and simply said 'Can't be bother anymore, just chucked in a really (no I mean really) low quality webcam that is almost unusable, that'll do! See you Monday'. Think old grainy black and white photos and you are nearly there. Why on earth would you do 99% of the job and then drop the ball on a low cost item like a webcam. How sad. So the bottom line is if you don't have need for a webcam this might work for you however if you do then be prepared to purchase a stand alone one.
