Costumers Product Reviews

Pros

I have a real penchant for cameras owning a few DSLRS a SLR(film) and a couple of point and shoots both digital (in fact I owned a very early digital that cost a fair bit and was a huge 2.1 megapixels!). I’m an enthusiastic amateur – I don’t go on about f -stop this an ISO that as I just find I'm not that technically minded with regards cameras, I know how and when to use them - but in the end with regards any camera I just know what works for me and what I like and don't like about them and there are surely more people who are much more conversant with that more technical aspect of photography than myself.

A pricey point and shoot is what I was expecting with this one but it’s so much more, sure it is compact and easily stowed but it will do what most SLR bodies are capable of. The amount of tech crammed into this little unit is quite astounding really.

The first thing I noticed was the weight, it feels sturdy, well made, quite reassuringly weighty for it’s size. Powering it on and the Zeiss lens extends automatically out of the body and when switched off it retracts inside again the lens protector coming across to shield it. Control wise everything is well placed, I have large hands and unlike some cameras even full sized ones, I didn’t find myself brushing accidentally against the wrong buttons. The menus are quite intuitive, easy to navigate which is a big plus.

The main LCD screen is a good size and can be angled to a few positions the most useful being facing the subject when taking a picture – to assist in taking the perfect selfie if your so inclined.

It also has a pop up viewfinder which sits neatly in the body until you need it, same with the flash unit which again is stored in the body when not in use.

Now my son said this is the sort of camera a blogger would love, mainly because it delivers HD video (up to 4K no less) in a small package. The video quality is excellent quite stunning, sharp and detailed, this is just at regular HD and is easily equal quality wise to a dedicated HD video camera I have – I don’t have a 4k TV so I can’t comment on how much better that would be. The audio from the in built mic is fantastic too but there is also a microphone port so you can attach an external mic if you feel the need to.

Approaching it as a point and shoot picture wise I’m getting excellent results on the auto setting, the pictures are vibrant and well balanced, not shouty and the low light is great even without a flash, the unit will automatically switch to macro setting when photographing any small or close up object.

The zoom is really very good - quality is still very strong even when zooming in on an object from afar, I’ve attached some pics showing the power of the zoom, each were taken at the same spot.

Moving away from point and shoot it has all the options that a regular camera would have so you can set it up manually to get the very best out of your shots. There is so much to explore on this little beauty that you’ll be finding new stuff months later.

It seems pretty sturdy and looks like it could take a few knocks although the lens protector could be a little more robust I feel. It does come with a pouch but it’s more for storage rather than when on the move.

But this is easily the best point and shoot I’ve had by a long stretch, it’s a great alternative to when you just don’t fancy lugging about a (D)SLR or just to grab on the last minute and stuff in a pocket because with it I know for certain I’m going to get some great shots. It doesn’t compromise on picture quality because of it’s size….this is a big camera in a small package.

Cons

After I did try this camera, the first thing its too expensive, and I found nothing impressive for this price. I didn't like the design, it's not comfortable to look at because of this viewfinder on the side. Most important if you like me using windows 7, you can do nothing with RAW pictures, can't convert need at least Windows 8, nowhere I see that and because of this, I returned this camera. Older converting images from RAW were useless. Finally got converted and as you see in the first image I got some strange dark oval on my RAW image ( I am a photographer since 1996 and I never experienced this type of fault )

Yes, sharpness is there image 2, but the camera does automatically processing noise and if photographing from the hand gets blurry, image 3.7
